Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for October 31, 2016
Transcript:
Mom: Hey, guys! How was trick or treating? Alice: Embarrassing! Nobody ever even heard of Queen Rattlebasket! Dill: Pointless! I dropped my blank sheet of paper costume and daddy stepped on it. A blank sheet of paper with a footprint on it makes no sense as a costume. Dad: Great! Nobodoy recognized me in my quiet neighbor who always keeps to himself and seems so pleasant costume for the eight year in a row!

Wait. I cannot believe no one recognized the bride of King Wobblewheel.

I’d be honored to bestow treats to the royal couple and the dreaded white piece of blank paper.

I wonder how Dill did as King Wobblewheel.

If they didn’t recognize dad in that costume how does he act in the neighborhood the rest of the time??

“Quiet nabor who always keeps to himself and seems so pleasant” — isn’t that what the people being interviewed on TV always say about the guy who shot up the old-folks home?

If Queen Rattlebasket and King Wobblewheel trick or treated together, maybe they would have been more recognizable.
(Why do I feel silly typing these names and why doesn’t my computer think they are real names????)

But they got the treats anyway, so it was a success.

Over the Hedge had a nice tribute to Richard Thompson in yesterday’s strip. Here is the link to the OtH blog with both the strip and Fry’s comment.

Maybe Petey could have turned the paper over? Or did the other side also have a footprint?

It’s like one of those highly-regarded Japanese movies, with the same story told from multiple POVs, with distinctly different results for each involved. Petey is, of course, my hero, but I suppose I could grow up into Peter in a few more decades….
