And all these years later poor Cathy’s Mom hasn’t gotten to be a grandma either.

I still hope the finale is her beginning menopause and realizing she’s wasted her life on such trivialities as shoes, clothing, and diets and gets sent to the nut house. She’s driven me insane since I could first read, yet I can’t stop reading this! It’s like a really bad book you just can’t stop reading because you want to know what comes next.

And since people and things do age in this strip (except maybe the dogs, who would be long dead by now), Cathy is too old to have a baby of her own.

@SueB1863; I seem to have missed something - you refer to “the strip’s final weeks”. Is Cathy Guisewite planning to stop doing the strip?!! Howcum I never heard??!

When is this going to happen?

@summerdog; Cathy feels (or deludes herself that she feels) “happily married”, “great career”, “wonderful, secure life” - “fulfilled”, not “left behind”. How could anybody who feels that way care what another person thinks about what they are wearing?

@CharlieTuba; Andrea says, “I’m going to be a grandma”. As I understand it, that means the kid is not in preschool, but in something else at the moment!!

OK…. Cathy has always obsessed about her clothes. Last week’s strip showed her shopping for a new outfit to wear because she was meeting an old friend. Cathy stated this intent in that strip to the sales lady. Knowing Cathy as so many of us do (from the beginning) we know that she wants to look her best for Andrea. Cathy has always worried about what others think of what she is wearing. Many a past strip has been about this very obsession of hers.

Andrea has a daughter and a son. Since the daughter is the older one, this announcement is probably about her. We don’t know the whole story yet. It has to play out. We are guessing till then.

Yes, Guisewite is retiring the strip. Early Oct. I think.

@CharlieTuba - it’s Charlene’s son that is in preschool, not Andrea’s.

But Cathy does not have children yet, so Andrea is still ahead of her.

I guess Guisewite is having A’s kids age in real time - as I remember her 1st kid(Zenith?) was born in 1985.

It’s cute how the dogs and Irving look at her as she leaves in the 3rd panel showing they love her just as she is…maybe the strip won’t end with her being pregnant

What the heck? How old are Zenith and Gus supposed to be? And weren’t Andrea and Cathy well into their 30s before Zenith was even born? If so, there ain’t NO baby in that future!

Zenith and Gus were part of Cathy’s wedding 5 years ago – I believe they were depicted as teenagers then. So they would be around 20 now – certainly old enough to have a baby.

I heard CG on NPR today and she sounds a little sad to be ending this. I sure hope she reconsiders – she is going to be breaking a lot of hearts when this strip ends.

10 bucks her dog is having puppies. That’s what my pastors son did to freak him out. Course since then they added two kids to the puppies.
