Here, we see the beginning of a phobia. Like all fish stories, it eventually got bigger until it was cats. (Actually, it expanded to rhinoceri for a while, but there just weren’t enough of them around to keep the myth going).
Actually the rhinoceri had the phobia that it was bad luck if a human crossed their path and that’s why there weren’t enough rhinoceri around to keep the human version going.
