Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal by Zach Weinersmith for October 30, 2016
Transcript:
Suppose you have a starving family. You pass a bakery. If you don't steal bread, your family will die. If you do still bread... You are put into a runaway trolley. The trolley is headed for a crowd of people. You can alter its path so that it only hits one person. If you hit that lone person, their body will be surgically connected to yours in order to survive. Now, the- Stop! You're just concatenating ethical problems in a way that doesn't provide any additional clarity. Twist: the person who surgically connected to you... Is the baker.

A problem with a starving person, a spouse of a sick person, etc, any of these presenting a person in need of something lifesaving being forced to do something illegal to survive, cure the illness, etc., is a display of how callous our society is to the suffering of others.
