I can hardly wait to see Max on a bicycle and Lucy on a tricycle… then both later on in a car with Max behind the wheel and Lucy as a passenger.

I’d like a word with Jan Eliot…though I doubt she reads the forum……

    Baby walkers are dangerous!

Almost all pediatricians, the Mayo Clinic, baby care publications and websites say not to put your baby in a walker.

    They’re banned in Canada…

illegal to sell new or used

because they were found to be the 2nd greatest cause of injuries to infants.

I hate being one of “those people” who don’t know “it’s a comic strip” …..

but I feel that a walker being made to look so “cute” deserves a warning.

Whenever I hear someone say ‘I hate to be one of those people but…’ I respond with ‘But you’re so good at it!’

Baby walkers are designed so the baby’s feet touch the ground, and they can move around a little. The baby girl has no control in this walker.

My 10 month old daughter ran her walker off into the sunken living room the first time we put her in it. Exit the walker.

Don’t use walkers. Messes up the kid. And can cause dangerous incidents you don’t need. Can delay their walking.

Max has needed a good swat a long time ago but Mum uses reasoning. You don’t reason with a toddler or even a 5 year old, you teach and if that doesn’t get through then a good swat on the bottom will.

Seriously!! As if———There aren’t enough brats that have not been taught simple right from wrong! There aren’t enough brats that don’t ever think of anyone but themselves!! There aren’t enough babies that are badly, critically or fatally hurt by shaken baby syndrome!!! There aren’t enough babies that survive things like this that grow up to be just as bratty, selfish, entitled expecting hoodlums!!!! There aren’t enough parents that act like parents—maybe because they never had decent parents either!!!!! BREAK THE CYCLE!! GROUND THE BRAT FOR AT LEAST A WEEK!! AT LEAST ONE SWAT ON THE BUTT TO SHOW HIM WHAT PAIN IS!! A Jan Eliot—YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really don’t like that boy and if Joan doesn’t teach him some empathy pronto neither will anyone else.

Walkers have been used since forever. There are drawings of them in Elizabethan books, and they were probably old then. Of course, when all children wore dresses until they were house-trained, not allowing them crawl about “as an animal might” made perfect sense.

I didn’t make that stuff up!I’m as old as most of you, I’m sure….and right, we did lots of dangerous things…. and survived! Some were not so lucky.

OK… this is from the Mayo Clinic:

“Baby walkers — devices designed to give babies mobility while they’re learning to walk — can cause serious injuries. The American Academy of Pediatrics urges parents not to use baby walkers.”

“Don’t allow your baby to use a baby walker and make sure that your baby’s other caregivers don’t use baby walkers, either. "

Consumer Reports Buying Guide refuses to rate them, and says "We don’t consider any walker to be safe, and advise parents not to put their children in one. "

Parenting Magazine, Kidshealth.org, every site I could find said the same thing.

Highlight and click this link to read an ABC News article about the American Academy of Pediatricians proposed ban on them.

    http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=117253&page=1

Capricorn…. I never said stationary entertainment centers were dangerous! The mobility is the problem.

And adult supervision doesn’t keep them safe.

    From the NY Times:

" Consumer Products Safety Commission declared that baby walkers were responsible for more injuries than any other children’s product. …

Walkers allow mobility… faster than a parent’s reaction time."

But all of you… hey… just Google “baby walkers” and then do what you like. It’s your kids and grandkids.

Nobody said Joan was coping very well with her two kids. I thought the whole point of the strip was to create empathy for overwhelmed mothers, not create two perfect role models to emulate.

I can’t get over how some people are so anal and over protective that they criticize a freaking COMIC STRIP. and tonight my English husband just read to me that another parent went to work in North Carolina, parked her car in the sun (black car) with all the windows rolled up, at 7:30 in the morning and came out at 4:25 p.m.to find she’s locked her two year old in the back seat all day in the blazing sun.. This is the third child killed by a parent who “forgot” they had their child in the car seat in the back…… And you’re going to moan and post statistics about walkers??? give over

    Lock. The. Tricycle. Up.

Tell the little wart that he can’t have it for a day and then only if he doesn’t hurt his sister. And take it away again if you have to!
