Not nice, Dad! instead of being a sneaky so-and-so, why don’t you go out WITH your son? Share the task AND the play? You’d be doing a good thing as a Dad. And it would do good things for you, too!
Shoveled a lot as a kid. Became an adult, got a job, got a snowblower. Smart I thought. Realized I was still freezing and moved to Texas. Smarter, I think. But it’s darned hot in Summer.
Most chores though, especially, as I grew older, like shoveling the walks and driveway in the winter and mowing the grass in the summer were expected of me without asking
.
.Not that little hints weren’t dropped. Like: " You might want to get that shoveling done before it gets too heavy " or " Boy, that grass has really grown fast ! You might want to mow it before we lose the cat. " ( We didn’t have a cat ! )
Houston is hardly tropical, but summers are 90/90 (90 degrees F and 90% relative humidity), so the British consulate there pays tropical hardship bonus. Incredulous laugh from those near the Red River.

I never noticed before that Mike wears a hat with pom poms on it; did he grab his sister’s hat by mistake?

Hey, Daddy- it’s your walk and your shovel, so it’s your job.

That’s something my Dad would have done.
He had a knack for conning me into doing things.

I saw a video the other day of a guy using one of those long plastic tables to shove snow off his walks and driveway. Lots faster than shoveling.

I think the catch-call caption for New Yorker comics would fit perfect here.

You just didn’t know you had a cat since it was hiding in the grass!

That is just one snow. Next you will want to count each flake as a separate storm.

Must be that “gorbal warming” everyone is talking about today.
