My dad arranged a job for me! I'm going to make my own money! My friends are going to see that I'm waa-a-ay more mature than they are. I'm Toby Bucket and I have a job! Now, you just have to do the job. Crash!
I started doing work for my dad (self-employed) when I was about 4 years old. The Red Cross penny cards that were left at businesses for penny donations. It was my job to hammer out the die-cut holes in the cards. It took a LONG time and the bonus was that I could keep the “knock-outs” to play with afterwards. It was kind of fun. Dad printed the cards, which were quite large and run them through a press to die-cut to penny holes in the first place, but he needed someone reliable to knock them out with a special hammer. My older sister didn’t want the job, so I got it. She was annoyed after I got paid for my work, and bought something special for myself with my earnings.
But can he do the job? I know he can get the job. But can he do the job? I’m not arguing that with you. I’m not arguing that with you. I’m not arguing that with you.
I still remember my first job – at 14 I was helper to the maintenance man at a nursing home. I enjoyed it (well, most of it (some of those folks smelled mighty funky)) and looked forward to going in to work.
Reminds me of my summer in a factory where they’d accidentally painted over the screw holes in a bunch of hardware and I had to take a tiny hand held bit and drill out each hole. Yes, I fell asleep doing it and snapped off a few bits.

Toby Bucket will be Charlie Bucket’s father and graduate to screwing the lids onto toothpaste tubes.
