    The trope of dying while writing at least goes as far back as Lovecraft. It was used in the Lovcraftian last episode of Jonny Quest, the “Sea Haunt” with a Deep One creature that resembled the “Creature from the Black Lagoon” had notes written by the captain that dribbles off the page just like that. “The Creature must have got hm and killed him.”
