Caulfield: I like how our national day of gratitude seamlessly segues into our season of dissatisfaction.
Frazz: A harsh but not inaccurate account of the holiday economy.
Caulfield: They're showing ads for TVs ON TV, for heaven's sake!
Who’s going to break the shocking news to Mallett…uh, I mean Caulfield, that ads for televisions on television has been going on pretty much since televisions have existed?
on black friday I think I’ll read my comics page and see how many amusing adverts come up on the sides…and ponder on what the agencies think I want and why they think what they do. Other than that I’ll Opt Outside (thanks to REI for the catchy slogan)
I do love the ads where they try to show you the glory of the “4K” HDTV… on your now-hopelessly-outdated (two year old) 780p screen (or better, my old CRT set). “Images simulated…”

They are more like public service messages as the vast majority of American homes are sadly lacking in the television viewing area department.

I haven’t had a TV for about 10 years, threw it out and never looked back.

Gratitude segues into generosity. Gluttony and greed are but two faces of the same coin.

This strip is occasionally too twee for its own good. Ads for TVs have always been shown on TV.

“Ads for TVs on TV”: kind of like being in a store and hearing a recorded announcement telling you why you should shop at the store you are in.

This reminds me of a comment by Hobbes: “Well, if your happiness depends on satisfying a need you didn’t know you had before you saw the ad….”
