I think that is our previously deceased Vic in panel one. I believe that the scream & shot, is Selfie meeting up with a Water Buffalo being herded into where Selfie is presently located. Tracy looks to be revived & being helped to safety.
Is it just me, or does it seem like Dick got closer to his demise with Selfie than several of his past bad-guy encounters? You’d think a more experienced villain would get closer to taking DT out…
This is confusing. The Zoo Lady appears to be on both sides of the cage bars, between panels. She prods the beast, which is on the other side of the bars, but in the next panel, she is on the same side as Tracy, who is being helped out of danger. Plus, the fence surrounding everybody in panel one is a different construction than the straight bars we see in the next two panels. I can’t figure out where everybody is located.
putting yesterdays strip together with todays strip I come up with this, Selfie didn’t see something, he felt something, Tracy’s gun sticking him in the ribs before he realized Tracy was regaining conscience. Aieee, bang was Selfie trying to run before Tracy was fully alert and Tracy shooting him before he could escape. I don’t think the water buffelo got into the building where Tracy and Selfie were because that was a storage area so the entrances are probably to narrow for something a large as a water buffelo to get in.
I agree… there are a lot of ambiguities today as far as the positioning of the characters in the cages and the source of the gunshot. Joe and Mike don’t have the liberties to portray the levels of violence that Gould’s strips were famous for.
I hope we at least get an explanatory strip which will recap what happened here.
How Mike and Joe, who are supposed to me masters of communication, can confuse what ought to be a couple of simple events, astounds me. Following this arc is like reading a book and omitting the odd-numbered pages. It’s irritating.
The glasses (panel 1) indicate that the lifeless body in a zoo uniform is Vic.
The cute blonde zoo employee (all panels, but the focus of panel 2) fends off Bullwinkle momentarily.
Lizz helps stumbling, groggy Tracy to escape (panel 3).
That leaves Bullwinkle and Selfy in the holding pen for the next scene(s)—or perhaps the next scenes will be self-censored so as not to upset the queasy….

“AAIIEEEEE”? “BLAM”?
It’s like going for popcorn, and coming back just in time to hear a scream, a shot, and then ask “whaddimiss?”

I think Selfy made a run for it when he saw Tracy regaining consciousness.

This apparent inability to show any violence in a detective strip makes it “defective” strip. How stupid can we get?

“AAIIEEEEE”? “BLAM”? brings to mind the question posed by ancient philosophers; What is the sound of a funny duck shot by a circus clown?

Come on! Let’s have some more gore! Just some blood dripping off those horns would do the trick.

To me at least, Lizz is looking like a slightly older Veronica Lodge (Archie Comics) today.

That’s definitely Vic in the first panel. Selfy doesn’t wear glasses. I guess we’ll find out more with the next strip.
I’m travelling for a few days and having Internet connectivity hassles. I’ll comment when I can.
