Does anyone else see a resemblance to a young Bob Hopewith the way Leslie is drawn? Bob hope’s real name was “Leslie” too. I wonder if he partly created this character from him.

Looks like Les’’s hand was already on Pru’’s slip (of paper) before they drew.

I’ve always hated that game. I always end up with someone I don’t like, or vice-versa.

Hmmm, looks like the ones who said Les has the hots for Pru, were correct… this should be ummm interesting, seeing as she’s not into men!

Is, TJ was just kidding about the car.

Assuming this gift exchange takes the rest of the week (at least!), we shall have no Christmas show at the Fuse this year. How does Frank stay in business? Creative accounting by the firm of Gray & Knox?

Many lesbians still fancy a guy on occasion. However it’s beyond me how Les would attract anyone (maybe another sociopath?).

I’m guessing from O’x comment that he has TJ’s name, and we can assume that Les was saving Pru’s name for himself… that means either TJ and Pru have either Les or Ox…?

In any event, I suspect that whatever Les is up to has more to do with lust for lucre or revenge or something than lust for Pru.

“Secret Santa” gift giving is generally OK. However, the “Dirty Santa” gift exchanging is something I find totally unacceptable – and I have to wonder about those who do. I’ve seen “Dirty Santa” bring out the worst in members of an office group.

Nah. Les is not attracted to Pru. This is not about his attempt to buy a present for some girl. He is planning something mean.

If the car is old, someone should get the ’coupe a ’toupee. ;)

Y’know, I read these strips for fun and having these soap opera story arcs are annoying.

It’s interesting that Evans has nailed the character of our new President in his portrayal of Les. Uncanny how similar the two are.

I actually believe that Les is smitten with Pru. This arc has comedic potential, especially if Pru thinks everyone knows she is gay.

I don’t think Les realizes that Pru is into girls, not boys.

Leslie has a thing for Pru and is using the gift exchange as an excuse to gift her? I guess Leslie does not know Prudence swings the other way and is hot after Luann.

Greg has said that it is easier to write for bad characters thing good ones.

I think Les put his OWN name on all of the slips..so he would get all of the gifts, and since no one was supposed to divulge the name they picked…no one should be the wiser. Oh, that Les…he’s such a cut up (insert sarcasm emoji here)

My guess is that all of the other slips say “Les” and that he “accidentally” let them see Pru’s name as a decoy.

Er, if somebody draws their own name, but all of the slips are gone, how do you “put it back” without somebody else revealing who they drew?

Interesting plot twist…hopefully it doesn’t take too long to unveil…

Well, so Leslie is holding onto the Pru tag. Hmm. He wants to be the one to get a gift for Pru? So, what does it mean? I see two scenarios:

1. As others suggested yesterday, MAYBE Les really is “smitten” with Pru and is unaware of her orientation? If this is the case, then it could be an arc that is still about Les’ redemption…. he is trying to do something “nice” even though he is doing it in a shady way.

2. It could also be part of a nefarious plot. If for some reason Leslie dislikes Pru, or feels she is somehow part of the reason he is being forced into working at The Fuse by his Uncle…. perhaps he is planning some sort of “gift” that will have negative repercussions for Pru? Perhaps a gift that was stolen? Or a “gift” that somehow implicates Pru in something? Not really sure how it could be worked, since I do not tend to see things in a nefarious way myself, but I still think it is possibly Leslie’s intent.

I’m sure the Evanses have something more elaborate in mind, but my thought is that Les nicked something from the Wedding Gifts pile. Presumably someone did make a donation to the firefighters group, but also thought to gift the Happy Couple with something, possibly for the honeymoon.

So Les, not realizing that Pru swings the other way, is planning to give her the gift he stole in hopes of kindling some sort of whoopee. His plan will backfire, though, when Pru realizes that this was her gift to the Daytona-DeGroots.

Or maybe he does know that Pru is gay, and thinks he can “fix that”. The world has no shortage of people who are convinced that gay people just haven’t met the “right” special someone with whom they can happily have reproductive intimacies. I think it comes largely from older parents who can’t stop obsessing about grandchildren, and is fueled by religious imperatives dating way back.

Once upon a time, religions who tolerated non-reproductive intimacies got outbred by their less-tolerant neighbors, who had enough people in a few generations to move in and take the other tribe’s land. Human sexuality has been used as a tool of religious power-mongering for a long, long time.

When is Mr. Grey going to show up?

I guess the moral of this story is, if you just have to be a bully, don’t pick on a future cartoonist or comedian. You’ll be forever “memorialized.” After establishing that you’re a loathsome jerk, you’ll then find yourself wearing a monkey-suit uniform working for an establishment named, er, Kafe Kablooie, find yourself humbled or at least intiimidated by your uncle, and embarrass yourself having the hots for a gay woman. Hehehehe…oh sweet revenge, eh Greg?

When I’ve been part of this kind of gift exchange in the past, we always had a $5 spending limit.

If Ox were thinking this through in a fun way… he would go buy TJ a Matchbox car…. a fancy Porsche or BMW or something. :)

If Les wanted to get a gift for Pru why would he involve the two guys? Surely he will want Pru to know the gift is from him.

You are right, Dog! That trick worked. What has not yet been done is to put the new comments from the Evaneses in where the last comments are serving as a place holder.

TJ is known for having money and could conceivably pay for his own car. Just sayin’

Les might already know about Pru. Maybe LES is gay and wants to use Pru as a “beard”? Who knows – who cares. I agree with whoever called the character a weaselly creep. He needs to be discovered, punished and removed from sight.

Hey I commented more on the lesbian redemption issue that has been brought up more than I meant too. But I do think that Les and his plans bear watching in general, for whatever he has up his sleeve, and I think he has something up his sleeve. Getting next to Pru is not it, although perhaps they have a friendly relationship, which is good by itself. I think Pru tends to look at people as good generally, but I bet she also has enough wisdom to know when they are phony. We will see, but this feeds into Christmas and New Years, and the Fuse, so it all is of a piece, and not related to the wedding.

Remember how Greg dealt with Tiffany during the High School years, when she was an unpleasant person who often did bad things ( like blackmail Luann). There may be a time that they seem to be getting away with it, but eventually right does prevail over wrong. Les may continue with his shenanigans for a while, but at some point his Uncle Al is going to catch him and make sure restitution is made.

I think Les is gay.

So, Les is holding Pru’s name back for himself. This is because 1) he has a crush on her, 2) he thinks she’ll be an easy scam.

Les is the kind of guy who lets the little toothpaste wads dry in the sink, scrapes them off, then serves them as after dinner mints.

Have we ever seen Les smile? Hard to feel comfortable with someone who always looks angry…

These 4 people giving gifts to one another seems odd since no one is really a close friend with any other in the group. Moreover, all activities suggested by Les would seem suspicious…. as usual… and we never learn of the outcome, i.e. like raising $ for a childrens’ theatre group. Whatever happened to that? All I can think of is that this whole potential episode is weird and worrisome.

I think Les has been skimming all that money to buy his terminally ill mother, who might not make it to Christmas, a very special pair of beautiful shoes.

OMG and I used to get flamed for comments “inappropriate” for a “family” comic strip; all you “Pru’s” as in prudes, better run for cover or start reading “Family Circle”.

Does anyone here find Leslie’s and Prudence’s hairstyles similar? kinda creepy.
