Nothing makes me laugh out loud as consistently as Herman.

I saw a lady feeding her children grapes she never bought at the grocery store. In fact, she fed them several bulk items. Everybody else got to pay for them as the store had to raise rates to cover the expenses of theft.

    .

I have read people complain groceries are more expensive in those neighborhoods.

Sounds like a good idea, but $1 is probably not sufficient to cover it.

Many years ago my mom told me they stopped an older man in Waldbaum’s, who was apparently bleeding from his head. They tried to assist him, and after much resistance from him they removed his hat and discovered a poorly packaged steak that was leaking the blood.

    Ralph Ziggy said,

“Sure such theft is bad but I doubt the price of those relative few grapes had any bearing on produce price increases. "

    .

Whereas I’m sure they actually do .

They closed the store sometime after, so maybe that particular one didn’t raise prices enough to offset the loss.

    ,

" I have seen such things happen in well to do neighborhoods with very low crime rates by the way."

    .

    Maybe not.

This IS a crime, you know, just one many of us ignore.

And, yes, after that one closed, she did her “shopping” elsewhere — leaving a trail of grape seeds behind her, complaining that they weren’t seedless.

I wonder how the cost of petty pilferage compares to the expected cost of spoilage. Fruit & vegetables get thrown out every day because it can no longer be sold.

When I was very young, my Grandmother always gave me a box of animal crackers off the shelf in the store. I ate all the way through the store. When we got to the checkout register, I proudly let the cashier ring up my box (as long as I got it right back). My Gran would have NEVER thought of not paying for the cookies. Nowadays. . . life has changed GREATLY. And definitely not for the better!

I spent 22 years of my life working in grocery stores. Once a man came up to even put his stuff on charge when the woman at the register ask what was stuffed in his bib over alls It was a 1 lb. can of coffee. He said Oh I forgot it was there. He had a cart!!.. Same man stole pop bottles them turned them in for money to buy tins of Prince Albert .
