The good news is, we aren’t at either the harmonic convergence or among the ‘yupmothers’ anymore…

A vote by Zonker is bound to be reasonable.

If only he were a member of the electoral college…

(Okay, I set you up, so feel free to go wild.)

Found out yesterday that some people think that the us constitution can’t be amended. It has been and it can be. Also, some seem to not understand that if the us is an outlier in the way elections are conducted as in not being a true democracy, it shows that we should examine what we are doing. I never said throw out the constitution. Get rid of the part that supports what was created so that slave owners could avoid having to worry about the population in their state as slaves were thought to be 3/5 of a person. Twice in 16 years the majority has not ruled in the us for a us presidential election. Enough.

Once upon a time, a prez could serve as many terms as he/she desired. Then, FDR came and served 4 terms. After this it was decided by congress that there should be a 2 term limit for prez. Even though I though FDR was a good prez, I would have gone along with this.

Also, long ago, it was decided that one must be 21 years old in order to vote. Then, the Vietnam war occurred and many were fed up with the idea that they would have to serve their country in war, yet they could not vote. Around that time, we changed the voting age from 18 to 21.

There were many other instances in which the US constitution was amended. It is not easy to have an amendment to the US constitution, but it can be done. The constitution is considered a living document. It doesn’t change just because someone says so and I never made any such claim. However, it can be changed.

On this day of voting by the electoral college, anyone who cares about the integrity of the US elections should care about whether or not a foreign country meddled in our elections and outed just one side. If they can hack one side, they can hack the other. I strongly suspect they also have hacked the RNC and they are in a position to be blackmailed. If you believe they can only hack the DNC, you are extremely naive.

How’s he going to pay for his trip to London? Didn’t he spend all of his money buying Duke out of slavery?

The Lords “always [vote] at their party’s call, and never [think] of thinking for themselves at all.” Zonk’s vote would only be notable if he DID think for himself – this is the difference between a democracy (UK) and a Republic (US).

Nope, I never said slavery was the only issue framing the constitution, however it goes a long way in explaining the reason for the set up of the electoral college. The EC is antiquated and needs to go away asap. I am quite aware that some will disagree. The way the EC is set up it benefits the GOP, therefore they will disagree. Also, I am not sure how anyone can argue that young voters are so terrible, while at the same time complain that they don’t participate enough? If you think they are so bad, why bitch about them not voting? Just wanna argue?

US elections are like US style football. Some rules make no sense and it’s the only game I can think of where it can take 47 min. to play 19 sec. on the clock. US needs direct federal elections, not the staged system in place now. It currently takes way too long and leaves way too much time for backroom deals and smear campaigns. The idea that anyone can grow up to be President needs to have the rider “who also has wheel barrows full of money”

Yes, you are right. It went from 21 to 18. It was in 1971.

Americans didn’t want to go to war until we were forced to when Pearl Harbor was attacked. After Pearl Harbor, we were all set. I don’t think any potus would have been able to garner much support until after the attack. Of course, the war was going on before this but it was a different world from the one we are currently living in in terms of the way people were able to communicate with one another. It is natural to want to avoid war even though there are always many problems in the world. My father served in the South Pacific and had many terrible memories of the experience though he knew it was important.

Our next prez can’t get through a sentence without contradicting himself. Also, he has already admitted that he was not going to prosecute Clinton, he is not going to round up 11 million people and deport them, and he isn’t going to build a wall and have Mexico pay for it. It remains to be seen if his supporters will ever be smart enough to hold him accountable. He admitted his supporters are vicious so he was truthful about that.

Obama just said on NPR that the fact that Russia wanted to help trump win should not be treated as a blockbuster. It was the worst kept secret in Washington! Just imagine if the democrats had gotten the assistance from the Russians!?!!! What do you suppose we would be hearing from the GOP?

I still find it amazing that none of Trump’s supporters were upset while Trump was saying that it would be proof that our elections were rigged if he lost, and that he wouldn’t necessarily accept the results of those elections – but now that the CIA is actually saying Russia hacked the Democratic party and that might have contributed to the result of the election, Trump and his Trumpets are bellowing that this is just about sore losers. Trump and company are sore winners…
