There was a big outage yesterday for the FAAS. I couldn’t even get to the hosting company’s page to ask them to fix it. Now I’ve got a trouble ticket in with them and am waiting for their reply/fixit action.
Having lost touch with humanity, the Total Diaspora people had set to taming their new world, mindful there would be no backup. Humanity had lost the idea of being special or unique in the universe, and they were 99% certain that alien life there would be compatible, as it proved to be. Survival would be mostly identifying edible plants and animals and those that were poisonous or otherwise a danger.
There were no very large birds, animals or fish on Chron. The largest native was a sea mammal about the size of an Earth porpoise. With only two continents, having nearly identical climates and stable for at least the last twenty million years or so, there was not much variety or diversity to discover. Even with thousands of miles between them, the continents had nearly identical flora and fauna. As for the sea, well, it was The Sea, the One and The Only.
They found no intelligent life on Chron. Ferrins held the opinion that there was, aside from himself, still no intelligence on Chron. As humans settled Chron they reverted to a lower level of civilization. They had agriculture and metallurgy, for instance, but no energy or transportation infrastucture in place. They did as much as they could to upgrade their civilization, and kept knowledge they could not use immediately in libraries, to be used as they progressed. The overall effect was something like a Steam Punk Ren Fair, but without the conspicuous LARPing. If you looked in on them, you would put their progress as somewhere around 1820, but with a lot of futuristic anachronisms, and progressing rapidly.

Seems reasonable enough. Not that one really needs “reason” over on that social networking site….
