I think Ruben is getting at a more subtle point here: it’s not that “dumb” people reproduce faster than “smart” people (the underlying sci-fi gimmick driving both “Marching Morons” and “Idiocracy”), but that in the “marketplace of ideas” the same kind of natural-selection process takes place. In our post-Enlightenment society, which puts ever-decreasing value on facts, what matters is an idea’s ability to spread. Right now, creationism, climate-change denial, and the ineffable wisdom (whiz-dumb?) of the Almighty Unregulated Free Market are doing pretty well despite being easily proven false.
