GRAND AVENUE BY MIKE THOMPSON Grandma: Mr. Barnaby's on the phone. He says he'll pay you a quarter to shovel his walk. Gabby: Wow! A whole quarter? Gabby: Could I use it to buy a sports car? Gabby: Or perhaps I could put it in the bank and live off the interest? Gabby: Better yet, I could buy a yacht and spend my days cruising the Mediterranean! Grandma: He offered you a quarter for his driveway, not a penny for your thoughts. Gabby: Can't talk now - I gotta decide which private island to buy!

That is the trouble with our youth.. The reward should be the satisfaction of helping someone.. not the financial benefit. They need the exercise more than the money…

I used to mow my Grandfathers yard for a quarter. The handle of the mower was about head high on me. This was over 60 years ago.
