I've looked through the whole pile now, buddy.. And none of them not one.. Has anything even remotely sounding like a hamburger bush. You done with my seed catalogs, Raymond? Yeah, I was just checking something, Charley. Louie heard a crazy rumor.

Well of course not, Raymond. You should have been looking in the TREE catalog. It’s Hamburger Trees, not hamburger bush ! ! ! !

In Frederik Pohl’s novella, “The Gold at the Starbow’s End”, I vaguely recall that the crew of the starship USS Constitution (heading to Alpha Centauri) developed a bush that produced french fries and precooked, seasoned chicken legs that grew in the ship’s garden.

good morning, I still smile when I remember a lad at the farmer’s market who tossed a bruised apple to my dog, thinking he would play ball with it. My dog thoroughly enjoyed eating it instead, much to the young man’s surprise.

A couple of years ago, I stopped reading this strip because the infestation of talking animals became too much to take anymore. Thought I’d check back today to see if anything was different. Maybe I’ll check back in another couple of years, but probably not.

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,There’s a land that’s fair and bright,Where the handouts grow on bushesAnd you sleep out every night.
Where the boxcars all are emptyAnd the sun shines every dayOn the birds and the beesAnd the cigarette treesThe lemonade springsWhere the bluebird singsIn the Big Rock Candy Mountains.
