When I worked for a savings bank back in the days of the S & L crisis, the examiners from the former FSLIC came in to do their usual review. One of the things they did was an asset search on all the bank officers; homes, cars, boats, etc. Then they looked at our incomes and made a decision as to whether we could reasonably afford the things we owned on our salaries. We were all clean, fortunately. But some in other banks were not. Remember Charles Keating?
