We used to do that when playing “Old Maid”. Sometimes, we’d make a random card stick up so the next player would think it was the “Old Maid” and by choosing not to select that sticking-up card, they would pick the actual “Old Maid” Other times, we would have the “Old Maid” stick up so the next player would think we did that to trick them into picking a different card. So they would pick that card that was sticking up and they’d get stuck with the “Old Maid”.
