I wish it were as easy to fall asleep when I go to bed, as it is to doze off again in the morning. I’ve reduced my caffiene intake, watch my exercise, stay off the computer and TV at night—and still have trouble falling asleep. These days I eat 2 kiwi fruit at bedtime and that seems to help, but there are still nights I can’t fall asleep until 1 AM. I read a lot.
Looks like Schulz took school themes he’d tried out on others, and reassigned them to Peppermint Patty. Sleeping in class became a big thing for her, but she also inherited Charlie Brown’s reluctance to study for anything. She was more of a winner at first- the kid whose baseball team was organized and efficient- but by his own philosophy- winning isn’t funny.
Sally was having trouble in school before Peppermint Patty was, it seems like. It wasn’t so much that Charlie Brown was reluctant to study, it was just that he wasn’t very bright. (Also, it was easy for him to be talked out of studying and talked into anything else, being so wishy-washy!) Peppermint Patty actually was later officially diagnosed with a sleeping disorder, which was both “realistic” and less funny.

Careful Linus, or you’re going to end up in the Principal’s office.

Linus should sit next to Peppermint Patty. Stereo snoring

Surely Miss Othmar isn’t the teacher in this class. Linus would never fall asleep in her class.

I love sleeping as well. Especially on weekends where I sleep late.
Why not? I’m not going anywhere. Or anywhere until much later on.
