Ted probably could have used Chuck’s advice. As a rule, star players have often been lousy managers. (e. g. Rogers Hornsby, Ted Williams, Pete Rose) It’s usually the average players who go on to become great managers like Casey Stengel, Tommy Lasorda, and Jim Leyland.
Ted tried managing with the Washington Senators, who became the Texas Rangers during his tenure. He was one of the best players ever. He was not as good as Charlie Brown as a manager. But he wouldn’t have liked CB. He hated pitchers, which was one reason he did so poorly as a manager.
I don’t know if Whitey Herzog will ever be considered one of the best managers of all time, but there was nothing more exciting to watch or listen to (Jack Buck, for heaven’s sake!) than the St. Louis Cardinals playing “Whitey Ball”…
My personal opinion of why the Cards failed to make the playoffs last year was because they were trying to play “Gorilla Ball”…
It is always a stress and a concern when a loved one is ill and ends up being in hospital. Now, I’m just trying to be realistic and I don’t want to cause upset. But if those loved ones are around the same age as your Dad you start thinking “How long do they have left?” I try not to be a depressing person. But as much as I want to bury my head in the sand, I can’t.
For me it’s 14th-18th April including weekend.
I hope your weekend is going fantastic and that things are still going well for you.

It would’ve been nastier if Lucy had replaced Ted Williams with Joe Shlabotnik

Ted Williams wasn’t far above Charlie Brown on the list of the greatest baseball managers.

No matter how outrageous the set-up, Charlie Brown was always the easiest mark in the world. He wanted to believe.

If she’d told him it was Joe Shlabotnik, that would have been really cruel.
