Bonnie’s pose in the last frame is similar to the one in the police station when we last saw her, but the expression on her face is very different. An insulting remark for Bonnie, but I think she’ll get over it. I actually wonder if Mysta realizes how rude that comment was.
Neil Wick: “I actually wonder if Mysta realizes how rude that comment was.” Actually, maybe she does. Maybe that comment was on purpose. I suppose Mike and Joe would like us to forget that Mysta is still part Mindy, however small that part might be. As such, whenever Mysta does something that seems out-of-character, I have to wonder – have we seen the last of Mindy Ermine?
I love today’s banter between Bonnie and Mysta. Mysta’s comment about “older women” is pretty funny, and I wonder if anyone else besides me interprets Bonnie’s crack about “costumed crimefighters” as a veiled putdown of Mysta? Granted, Mysta doesn’t react as if it is, at least not right away. But after all, she does have a history of crimefighting (as did Moon Maid before her), and she always goes after bad guys while wearing her classic moon costume. Mysta is obviously very confident about how she dresses, and she doesn’t seem to have been offended by Bonnie’s comment. Still, I tend to interpret her “older women” crack as a counter punch, to put Bonnie back in her place and show her she can dish it out, too. Regardless, the exchange between the two ladies about Spirit and raising the possibility of him liking one or the other sets the stage for a little friendly female competition for his attention. We already know Bonnie will be in there swinging. Will Mysta join in the fun?
The sparks are flying today, both from Mysta’s horns and her conversation with Bonnie! The “older women” panel is a classic. One of the funniest scenes Mike and Joe have created, with Mysta looking hot and Bonnie looking hot in another way. The pulsating electricity is a dead giveaway that Mysta is emotionally amped to meet Spirit. We know Bonnie is, too, based on the 1/22 Sunday. I agree with Willy and the others that a spirited competition between these two seems to be in the offing!
Although that comment may be taken as rude, you must remember too; two attractive women may also trade barbs with each other, especially if they’re interested in a mate. IE: The Spirit. He’s handsome, single, and Mysta and Bonnie are still delightfully nice looking, hence it sounds more like a rivalry brewing, and Mysta got out the first salvo.
I am surprised that Bonnie’s age seems to have slipped back into the late twenties (I had thought it was now in the early twenties). Let’s look at Tracy’s history: at the beginning he has just proposed to Tess when her father was killed. They subsequently broke off the engagement, was engaged again, and then broke it off again; Tess was subsequently married to a baseball player named Nuremoh, who later died. Tess and Dick reconciled once again and eventually got married.
So for Dick and Tess to now be in their early fifties (which someone on this board a while back said was stated by Mike Curtis) and Bonnie in her late twenties, those pre-marriage events had to have happened in only a few years. However, this does again stress about how much older Dick is being portrayed compared to the Spirit, since the implication here is that his daughter is older than the masked crimefighter!
I agree that the mild banter between the ladies is fun and without rancor. Touché! Bonnie implies that Tracy, who usually does not care for costumed crimefighters, is making an exception for Spirit. We know he was not at all displeased by Mysta’s courageous actions at Ace Tower. While having no wish to wade into the fraught waters of comic strip time, it is safe to say that in 2017 Bonnie Braids is older than Mysta Chimera. What we know for certain is that Spirit, like the ladies, is without hugs. He has been to the moon: a story I would like to see. The shift from Hotel Siam to the Tracy home is effective, as suspense builds for the approaching auction. The ground is still wet from the rain we saw out the hotel window. Mysta is helping out in the kitchen. Delightful! My game day chili is already slow cooking in the pot, although I hear good things about the new Instant Pot. Maybe next year.

Mysta heads out on the road, received an invitation
Break bread with good company, such friends an inspiration.
Welcome her with open arms and hospitality
Others judge her by her horns, vent rude hostility.
Dick and Tess know very well she stepped into the breach
Fought to save their granddaughter and took great pains to reach
Her trapped high in Ace Tower, violent gunplay all around
Risked life and limb to save her friend whom Punjab finally found.
Tracy respects her courage. Been known to show the same
Crime stopping detective values justice over fame.
His eldest daughter, Bonnie, on Spirit has a crush
Tries to keep this to herself, repressing crimson blush.
Mysta would encourage her. No schema, plan or guile
Bonnie closer to his age yet simmers all the while
Might Mysta be a rival for the hugs that Spirit needs?
Braids masks her insecurities. In secret her heart bleeds.

Bonnie and Mysta/Mindy are pretty much the same age, after all, although Mysta has had a bit of work done.

Zing!
Eight, sir; seven, sir;
Six, sir; five, sir;
Four, sir, three, sir;
Two, sir; One!
Tenser said the Tensor.
Tenser, said the Tensor.
Tension, apprehension,
And dissension have begun.
Bonnie Braids and Mysta Chimera having a little kitchen-go-round!
I like it! Tracy tact will be called for, and the Spirit will have to be at his diplomatic best!
