Yes. Always engrave gifts if you want to make it impossible for them to be regifted. The engraved toaster is my go to wedding gift.

Make it so that it will imprint “Happy retirement Shorty” on his butt.

it obviously is intended as a joke, and Shorty will obviously not use it as a real toilet seat, but instead he will keep it as a memento. I’ve heard people say that their dream is to poop in a toilet made of gold. It would be too expensive to plate the toilet seat in gold, since the seat is too large for that and would require lots of gold, but they can plate the real toilet seat (the one he used, not a new one) in some other metal, and engrave it. At least it would be original, and he may take it in a good way. Good idea

Our club had a fun sailboat race once, and had a Standing award for the winner. But they also created a “Seated award” for last place: A varnished (new) wooden toilet seat engraved with DLBF (Dead Last But Finished). The winners were not too amused, unfortunately.

For the right person, this would be an inspired gift. I disagree with Redback, however. I’d have installed and used one — and it would have been more useful than my actual retirement gift.

Forget engraving, just have everyone sign it.
