Great Scott! Tracy’s going to arrest the Spirit! Or… not…
I still think that Warbucks is an impostor. It doesn’t explain how he got in to kill her, so I’m probably wrong. (As someone else said a while ago, Warbucks is there without the Asp or Punjab, which he’d probably never do. A super-rich guy without his bodyguard? Hmmm.)
I just hope it wasn’t Doubleup. You know – one of those, ‘she gets a letter from a doctor saying the formula is failing, and she has only weeks to live as her body ages super fast, and she hypnotizes Doubleup to…’ you know. From this story, I kinda like the big, homicidal comic book fan.
I think an as yet unnamed, yet another crossover character is responsible for Miss. ’nelle’s demise ! http://image66amarillo.com/phpBB3/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif
It’s obvious now, isn’t it? Not! I’m sure Tracy has figured it out … I think.
I found a page a couple of days ago on how to figure out an Agatha Christie mystery. Since this current story still reminds me very much of Christie, maybe some of you can figure it out from the tips on this page: http://www.poirot.us/whodunit.php
Warbucks imposter. My reasoning is that (on Sunday) he said he told her that the Great Am wanted to meet her, but when Tracy spoke with the Great Am himself back at the start of this story, the Am said he had met her several times before, starting with her funeral. So Warbuck’s statement doesn’t fit, and could be an attempt to misdirect.
Ok so here goes… I’ve gone all the way back to March 6th when Denny got the call from Tracy about Flammel’s demise, and the subsequent interrogations of the bidders… and this is what I’ve come up with… I believe I know who killed her!
In each interview, careful attention is paid to showcase each individual’s hands… aside from Double Up.. who both tracy and denny have eliminated as a suspect… EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM had been smoking during the interrogation, and NONE of them have large hands.
HOWEVER!!! During Ramon’s interview, you cant clearly see his hands because they are always folded. so that’s the FIRST clue I got. SECOND is when tracy mentions to Ramon that they have pictures of Flammel with members of his family, denny is looking at the pics but casting a sideways glance towards Ramon… PERHAPS he is noticing an uncanny resemblance to someone in the photo? I believe so.
Next, tracy asked Ramon if his children intend on keeping up the tradition, to which Ramon answers that he is not married. It seems like a ‘dust off’ sort of reply, and truthfully I took it to mean that Ramon is either not the marrying type or he isn’t ‘interested in women’ but then it hit me… WHY wouldn’t he marry? Simple… because he had taken the formula and would outlive any potential mates!!!!
but WHY kill Flammell? Whats the motive? Easy… his life’s work is to serve Flammel, and since thy are BOTH immortal, he wouldn’t want anyone else being around as long as they would be…Flammell selling her formula would be an ‘insult’ to Ramon because she wouldn’t let HIM have it for his family members.
As to HOW tracy figured it out? Well, he said to pat that the coroner had just left and that tracy believes Flammel was strangled…perhaps there were NO TRACES OF NICOTENE on Flammel’s strangulations marks.. which is WHY all the suspects were shown as smoking and WHY carrion was taken away…. eliminate the ONLY NON SMOKER and it narrows the suspect pool drastically. Am is not a suspect because, well… because he is Am… that leaves Ramon.
I don’t think the ‘no traces of nicotine’ on the strangulation marks is an issue, because there were no comments whatsoever of an autopsy. Imagine what an autopsy on someone hundreds of years old would reveal? However, my theory is, since Ramon had no children, he killed her because his family’s service to Flammel will die with him. So, instead of bearing the shame of allowing someone else to carry on as her servant, he killed her. You know the old adage: the Butler did it…
Paging back and looking at the previous strips, I don’t think it’s the Octopus. One of his trademarks, along with incredibly realistic rubber masks, was that he always wore gloves with a distinctive three-stripe pattern on their backs. Apart from the Spirit, the only one of the principals wearing gloves is the Dragon Lady. Although I suppose she COULD really be the Octopus in disguise, I’m kinda doubting it.
I suspect that Tsull2121 has fingered the most suspicious suspect. I’m not sure what Tracy has deduced, nor how, however. I guess I’ll have to remain unsteadily (as vs. firmly) in the Spirit’s camp on making an arrest now: Huh?
For what it’s worth: For all of you who think this is a bathroom scene, what a coincidence: Go Comics has blessed my edition of Dick Tracy with ads for Clorox Toilet Brushes!
I figured it was Ramon long, long ago, as he had both the access (he was already there) and the trust (of Double Up, who he was able to serve a drugged drink to because of that) And unless Perenelle’s formula actually WAS for real, which Tracy didn’t believe, the remarks about serving her since the 1800’s had to be a lie as well….

Tracy’s declaration, combined with the hint of mystery and suspense, reminds me of the original Sherlock Holmes stories.

I suspect that Perenelle is not dead and will revive, and that Ramon’s ancestors in the photos are actually Ramon, who is complicit with Perenelle.
