Discontinue Standard Time if you want to stop switching back and forth….
But don’t take away those glorious summer nights!
It would end, or greatly shorten, the evening farmer’s market where I work all summer, spoil fairs and concerts, and ruin outdoor family gatherings and children’s after-dinner playtime.
As for those who get up with the cows…. the cows care about the light, not the hour.
It isn’t even giving us an extended hour of daylight; it is stolen from the morning. Daylight Shifting Time is a better name. Although I think we should move the clocks a half hour and call it done forever. Or I’d be happy to eliminate “standard time”; we only have it less than half the year now anyway.
Love Frazz’s idea. There are a few things I can think of to do between 2 and 3.
Seems like the light change has something to do with a person’s perceptions of it. I and many others say we have a harder time adjusting to the November change. But maybe that’s because the March change also means spring is close, which always lifts the spirit.
One again we have the biannual chore of changing the time on our many clocks. Fortunately many of my clocks, PC’s, phones, even my alarm clock, do so automatically, but I still have to manually change the wall, thermostat, oven, microwave, wrist, and car clocks. The only thing I never change is my sun dial, it is set to ‘solar noon’ year round, which is not ‘time zone noon’.
Dang, that was the hour I was gonna hit the gym. No, really, it’s proven to fail miserably at its supposed benefit, saving energy; so dump the whole thing and go back to noon at a reasonable point near the sun’s highest point in the sky (taking into account time zones).

There is a proposal to have just two time zones instead of four.
