Jim is getting his tech knowledge from old Star Trek or STNG shows. Also it’s “relief valve” and it would dump to a shielded storage tank NOT to the open air.
It was about 8-10 feet high, how could it interfere with migrations. I imagine when they fly thru the radioactive cloud that will really be disruptive!
I remember well, back in the 1950’s, that the popular magazines were predicting that in a few years everyone would have a nuclear reactor producing almost free electricity to run the house in one corner of their garage. The program was flawed, obviously, when they discovered that few garages had room among all the junk for even a tiny one.
Nuclear is actually cleaner, safer, and more reliable. As long as terrorists don’t try to steal material from the core to make dirty bombs or vandals crack the radiation shielding everything should be fine.
Was a Control Operator for 30 plus years at a Nuc. The down side and why we don’t have more, is that they are very expensive to build. As long as we have plentiful natural gas you won’t see many more build. However France is the exception, they get 75% of their electricity from Nuclear, in fact they actually export large amounts of electricity to neighboring countries. The reason they can do it cheaply is they use ONE design and economy of scale.

When you put the nuclear waste in your garbage can, make sure the lid is on tight.
