Can’t quite tell if those are fashion sketches or cosplay photos on the office wall in panel #1.

I wonder if the ‘Margies’ are based on real people, living or dead.

Big Margie is a big bee-yotch !   Big bazooms are wasted on her. The other lady seems quite nice and they look like convention workers to me.

“How many different ‘Anime’ conventions ‘are’ there,” you may ask.

Short answer: More than a few.

This page offers a list by date, as well as links to convention homepages, and guest lists where available …

Looks like Big Margie is going to be a big problem at the cosplay convention.

Hey, Vista Bill, how do you write upside down? // For what it’s worth, since the “new” Go Comics, font size and color are gone, even underlining! Not to mention, no more attached pictures.

“Big” (little) Margie isn’t patterned after Gale Storm by any chance, is she?

@ Blunebottle: One of the pictures on that page shows a comic book where “My Little Margie” is sharing a soda with someone who looks a lot like Archie! Just wait until I tell Betty and Veronica!

I do not know these two “convention-al” ladies, but Little Margie seems to share stylistic traits with the Harold Teen characters. I cannot say the same for Big Margie, who seems more naturalistic. But Little Margie’s strength-plus-simpleness seems to be a deliberate trope, meant to be exploited later in the arc. At this point, whether Big Margie is Good or Evil is not discernible, though she has an elvish face, for what that may be worth. Both appear to be CosUCon staffers, whether paid or volunteer, hence Conventional….

    Premature speculation is fun!

Maybe it’s just me. But in the second panel, Big Margie’s facial features remind me of Flat Top.

@ DaJellyBelly: You have a point there. Anyface thinks Big Margie is in the style of Doonesbury characters, and he has a point there, too.

Big Margie’s face in panel 3: Nah, I don’t think she’s a bad guy. But I find it interesting that, because she’s not particularly pretty, some of us have already assumed that she will be nefarious!

Let’s face it: Dick Tracy tradition is that ugly people are criminals. Much as I love Dick Tracy, I have not cared for this aspect of “looks-ism.”

You know, if Mike, Joe, and Shelley wanted to really surprise us, they could have an arc where all the good guys are ugly, even disfigured, while all the bad guys are beautiful people!

Is Joe Staton no longer on the strip, or is this temporary for the Harold Teen segment? Does anyone know?

I don’t mind crossover comics, but if Broom Hilda or Alley Oop appears out of nowhere then I’ve seen everything.

Is it just my lack of sleep, or does Big Margie’s hair style and eyes make her look like she might be a relative of “Flat Top”

This story would probably more fun (and interesting) to me if I knew what in the holy bejeezus was going on and who the characters were

If you want to know what cosplayers do, check out an art site named Deviant Art (www.deviantart.com). On the homepage, type cosplay in the search window, and you’ll find almost 4 1/2 million entries from cosplayers around the world, doing everything from anime to Disney.

Some of the costumes are incredibly detailed (including full suits of armor), and look like something you’d see in a feature film. And no, it’s not a porn site; in fact, they even have censors for those who try to push the envelope.

Okay gang, I’m going to go out on a limb, here:

I say that the crime element (if there is one) in this story will involve counterfeit CosUCon merchandise!

Only six cases that size? Those cons attract thousands (and thousands). I hope they have 50 more boxes still on the truck.
