Obamacare didn’t work either, don’t kid yourself. Has anyone ever thought that the old way of private insurance companies was fine? If you just feel the need to regulate something try regulating big pharma and putting a cap on rates and deductibles. Simply have oversight for the industry rather than trying to reinvent the wheel.
Some seem to have a problem with tax-funded healthcare for all. Consider that you would be saved from paying higher costs of premiums to the greedy insurance companies, who have two goals: rake in your money and deny claims. And—-employers who provide expensive health care can only pass the costs on to consumers. The cost of a new American-made car increases about $1500. Gov’t does not “run” Medicare/Medicaid by hiring new workers; instead insurance companies bid for the claims-paying and other services, everyone gets the same coverage.
Exhibit 1: Compare the rate of insurance increases pre-Obamacare and post-Obamacare. You’ll see that Obamacare has actually been instrumental in bringing the rate of increases dramatically down.
Exhibit 2: Large numbers of working people were able to have their insurance subsidized, and therefore paid less money than they had before—and for better insurance.
Exhibit 3: The uninsured rate under Obamacare has dipped to a record low of only 8.8%—and dropping (as long as Trump and his cronies don’t blow it up).
Exhibit 4: You can’t be denied insurance, or have your insurance rates unreasonably hiked, due to preexisting conditions. Parents can keep their kids on their insurance for longer. Insurance companies can’t impose artificial caps on medical payouts. In other words, people can feel a lot more secure about having decent insurance that won’t be taken away from them because they had the bad luck to get cancer or get badly injured by someone who was texting while they were driving.
This is just some of the good that Obamacare is doing. And it’s why not only Democrats, but a whole lot of Republicans, don’t want to see it go away. Should it be improved? Of course! We should have a single-payer health plan so that nobody fears for their health. We should put more emphasis on preventative medicine. We should make hospitals more efficient. And we should absolutely allow the government to negotiate with drug companies to get their ridiculous prices—and even more ridiculous profits—down to something reasonable. So let’s all work on these things.
To Zippycats: We are absolutely on the same page with this. It’s an issue and an idea that cuts across ideological lines. The next step is to reach across those lines to make this happen.

Drug companies don’t attempt to cure anymore. There’s more money in treating people for life.

Billionaires need their tax breaks. Did you know we could end world hunger if we didn’t spend the money on the military instead?

The ‘old way’ was fee for service. NO HMOs.
Or did you not want the gummit out of health care?
