Bill Clinton: Wonder how my old friends on the left are doing? Hope they made it safely to the center. Okay, let's go around the table. Who's running the race for the center? Bob? Aide: You are, Chief.... with the G.O.P. leadership still pulling to the hard right, it's only natural that we liberals set up shop in the center - home of most voters. Your shift is both smooth and smart...Dole, on the other hand, is fighting the centrifugal force of his own party. When he finally does pull his way beck to the center, he'll find it occupied - by "liberal" forces! Worse, since he's only joining us to get elected - and everyone knows it - he becomes the one thing more despised than a liberal - a phony liberal. Bill Clinton: Hee hee! I like that... why do I smell a new ad campaign here? Aide: Because you're the man, sir! You have an instinct!
