I think a lot of it is what’s “important” to you. I mean my neighbors just had all their kitchen cabinets re-faced or re-done, and I remember them saying how much it cost … I almost fell over! I’m NOT into remodeling at all, especially not a job that’s going to cost so much that I’m concerned I won’t be able to pay it off in my lifetime. LOL.
Sell your car , that will pay for some of it.We went to one of the "improvement " stores 5 weeks and still waiting for the granite to be measured. Then found out it will take 3-5 weeks for them to get it and install it. So much for “You will have a new kitchen in about 3 weeks” We know who we won’t use for the bathroom.
‘Sticker shock’ is still a universal immunization against losing one’s head – and budget – in renovations. After setting a budget, getting estimates, and factoring in what you might be able to do yourself, you still might decide you just can’t bear to part with those wonderful old faithful interiors after all. That’s called installing a bit of common sense.
After I singed the kitchen cabinets in a fire and my burns healed, I built new ones from scratch. I build my own furniture which comes in handy. I also put a hood over the stove.
Nothing more than overpriced, glorified storage crates. Their sole purpose is to hide more stuff that your existing and paid for storage crates do equally well.
Reface the doors, John. Don’t replace the whole cabinetry. Or just re-stain or paint. Put in new handles. The cabinetry will look new and save thousands. If the floor is linoleum, replace with tiles – wood look tile plank is now popular and will become a classic. The only truly expensive item would be the granite…to keep the cost low, choose the surface look that has the least veins – the fewer veins, the cheaper. As for appliances, stainless steel is the rage but all-white or all-black would still be good and cheaper.
I could be wrong here, but it seems like the ones bringing up how much John spent on the cars are women, at least from the screen names. So, ladies, why are you so against a guy getting a sports car? You get clothes and shoes that, over a lifetime, could add up to more than the car.

John. Sometimes you just gotta grab the bull by the tail and face the situation.

All those lovely cabinets that John and Elly put in are now being ripped out and replaced as being too old-fashioned!

John, whatever you pick, she will choose something different.

The cost of the cabinets is always the biggest chunk of cash. If you can get past that, the rest goes down much easier.
