It’s always the little things that are a sign of sloppiness. The moving U for example. (I know, I know Apollo Neil, It’s the angle, it’s a different window, it’s the sunlight, it’s a different store!) LOL!
“You see, I knew something was going on. Big Margie made two mistakes; first, she didn’t recognize me – Catchem; Sam Catchem, special agent, Tracytown Costumers Association. Second (aside, Try this hat… ), when we got back from lunch I had every detective in “Q” division waiting to arrest the lot of them. Funny how naughty costumers always make that one fatal mistake. ’Bye for now – see you at cosplay!"
More great art from Shelley Pleger. Tracy and Catchem make a classic entrance, while we readers are positioned behind the counter, trapped with Big Margie. Such an icy stare. The mannequin offers a warmer greeting, so Sam sticks with her as Tracy steps up. Pulling back in the final panel, the eavesdropping Margies are revealed. The heat is on. Many criminals react poorly to rising temperatures. More of the good stuff from Team Tracy.
Thanks to Gwee-dough (in/sin), Neil Wick, Night-Gaunt49, 22ph, Vista Bill, Morrow and JPuzzleWhiz for kudos on the trifle. Much appreciated!
Many Palestinians are Semitic too. And not all Jews are Semitic. Me, I couldn’t tell who is a Jew just by their looks anymore than a Christian or Hindu etc.
I like that there is a larger undercurrent in the story. And it is timely (unfortunately) in this day and age.
For those who think I can only point out the bad I feel Shelley did a wonderful job giving Big Margie three totally different expressions, all with her body language. 1. Surprise 2. Disgust & 3. Defiance. Kudos to Shelley!
In addition to all the other comments so far about today’s art, which I would have said, I will add that we get to see Sam “doing his thing” – he very often could be seen looking everything over in the background (or sometimes in the foreground) in Gould’s art. I always liked that – he just takes everything in and assesses the situation quietly. From the first time he was introduced, he has been a top notch detective partner with Tracy!
Larceny and antisemitism notwithstanding, I rather like the 3 Margies. I’m hoping Big Margie will be rehabilitated, like Themesong, the Plentys and the Mole, and make appearances from time to time.
What a fine scene this is! Tracy and Sam enter the 3 Margies Costumes Shop; the gypsy mannequin waves a warm “Hi,” while Big Margie utters it coldly and gives Sam the limpest, cold-fish handshake possible, and Sam reacts knowingly; he’s been there before and senses bigotry when it confronts him. Panel 2 is really a classic! The other two Margies slink in the back room, Little heeding Middle’s guiding gesture.
I suppose Tracy and Sam could crack the case wide open right here and now if Tracy suddenly realizes whose silhouetted figures he saw in the photo. But more likely a bit more detective work will be required over the next few days. Do you suppose Big and her flunky cousins will try to flee town if given the chance?

Dick and Sam they enter
3 Margies Costumes shop
Big Margie catches her breath
Her jaw did nearly drop.
Law is in the house now
She shakes hands with the Jew
This cannot be happening
This she would never do.
Catchem looks around now
His eyes seem to see all
3 Margies get the goose-flesh
They’re headed for a fall.
Eavesdropping out of sight
2 Margies listen in
The air it goes electric
Will they pay for their sin?

I think Big Margie suspects something about Sam’s ancestry :P
The Policeman’s Ball line is so old!
It seems that the Margies saw the policemen coming and are letting Big Margie handle it – probably a bad idea!

Yeah, I’ll enjoy watching Tracy and Catchem take her down. I wonder if they have any convict outfits. Orange is definitely Big Margie’s color.

The dummy in panel 2 looks a sight smarter than our 3 stoogettes.

Love Shelly’s art today – the expressions on Sam, Big Margie, and Middle Margie are perfect.

Should a fight break out, it would be three-on-two.

If Tracy will see Big and Little Margie together, I think that he will be able to connect the two to the blurry picture at the cemetery.

I think it’s funny the way, in panel two, the mannequin is waving under the word “hi”.

What is that supposed to be in Tracy’s left hand in panel 1? Is that supposed to be the blurred picture from the graveyard?
