‘Over-correcting’ is a pain, for sure, But much worse, imo, are Thunderbird and other online dictionaries that don’t recognize standard place names and other very commonly used words. Have to keep ‘educating’ the blasted programs even though 99.99% of red-lined items can be found in any downloadable US or world English lexicon.
For Pete’s sake, people, install a decent program?!? What is this, the 1970’s?
A few years ago, I had some computer money to spend for our group. I asked our computer guru how long it would take to upgrade the existing computers instead. He responded by email “I had a motherhood swap done on my penis and it only took 20 minutes”. John wasn’t like that, so I took the email back to him and he said" That’s not what I sent. I said ‘I once had a motherboard swap done on my pentium and it only took 20 minutes’". Yep – autocorrect !
“Nervous police and school officials locked down two adjacent Georgia schools for two hours Wednesday after hearing a report about a text message that seemed to warn of a gunman present on campus, reports the Gainesville Times.
“What appeared to be a threat to West Hall middle and high schools in Gainesville, however, turned out to be an errant auto-corrected text sent to a wrong number, the police discovered. The text, which police traced to a student, read ‘gunman be at west hall today,’ instead of the intended ‘gunna be at west hall today.’”

You know it’s bad when you reread yourself to make sure that auto correct didn’t mess up with your text.

So why do you use autocorrect? I was offered it and I declined. It still shows me suspect words but that is all. Time to decline it.
