Elvis is outside! And for outside cats, birds surely do count as weather. They are a natural phenomenon that comes from the sky and have a major effect on feline lives. Some of our local honeyeaters come round specifically to sit in a tree and squawk at She Who Is A Threat To Small Avians. They don’t live in the tree. They just come to annoy.
When we’re having heavy winds, all the small birds are grounded. The finches and sparrows disappear entirely, and slightly larger things like pigeons and mourning doves get around on foot.
But the grackles, ah, the grackles love a good hurricane. They’re out doing flying tricks that they can only do when the average wind speed hits 30mph or above. And making sure everyone else can see them.
Better get inside before they take off, or you could get caught in a downpour. I’ve seen that happen to a poor guy who was walking by a parking garage.
Has anyone else watched The Birds with their cats? Most of the cats I’ve had never paid much attention to television. But many years ago when my second pair were very young, they both sat on the back of the sofa and stared at the screen as Tipi Hedren smoked that cigarette and all those crows filled up the playground equipment behind her.
We lived in Louisiana many years ago. One of our cats, an occasional slayer of other birds, was harassed by the local mockingbirds, who would dive at her and drive her into hiding.
My kitty was glued to the window when a bunch of crows were flying animatedly around the parking lot a while ago. I was unable to resist making jokes about her witnessing a murder.
This was from very early in the original strip. Well before Tommy. The characters were still finding their personalities and duties. Think of it as another em remastered by Burt. http://www.breakingcatnews.com/comic/heres-elvis-with-the-weather/
I used to have one of those, and it’s adorable. The birds would get him started, then we would chatter at him, and he’d chatter back at us. Sometimes I’d watch birds and chatter with him. And sometimes he’d look at me like, “Hey primate, I don’t know what you think you’re trying to pull here.”
When Sylvester was still alive, my brother told me how this one crow kept picking on Sylvester. Well, the bird nose dived, Sylvester jumped, and from that day forward, the crows didn’t bother Sylvester again. :-)

This is the strip that hooked me to BCN in the original run. When I watch crows now I think “With a chance of cardinals”.

This is one of my favourites! I love how Georgia’s new method of inking really brings out Puck’s expression of frustration in panel 3.

We know Elvis is never allowed outside so we need to go with the fantasy or assume he’s actually on a screened in porch looking at the birds.

I remember a mockingbird dive bombing a cat in the back yard. The cat did a backflip trying to catch the bird.

When I was a kid, my cat had a deep respect and fear of our blue parakeet. When she was outside, she would terrorize the blue jays

My weather report from my window: Swarms of battling noisy mynah and magpie fronts, with a few pigeons and crows in the middle of it.
