That kid may look like he is a messy eater, but he is nothing compared to a Patterson. Michael belongs to a family so renowned for its sloppy eating, it has a running joke about Pattersons dropping food out of their mouths that went for 29 years straight. Michael should say to him, “Step aside and let me show you how it’s done.”

@johnsallysullivanHowever, the word “mess” is derived from the Old French word “mes,” meaning food portion, which itself came from the Latin word “mittere,” meaning “to put” and “to send,” as in to put food on the table.

My daughters are in an academic summer program. To avoid “cliques” every day at lunch each table is set with a “theme” and the students each given a different aspect of that theme. The first day is the only one not set to a theme so that they can sit with whom they want.

    Lynn’s Notes:

During our offsprings’ retreat to Camp Tillicum, parents were invited to a family day so we could see what was going on. The dining hall was of great interest to me. I remember thinking how much fun it would be to sit with 50 other kids and eat wieners and beans.
