I actually do that. And it seems to work for me. I am aware I set my watch and car clock 10 mins. ahead, but it gets me where I need to go on time. I have done it for decades. My phone, however, has the correct time.
My wife keeps the clock in her car set 5 minutes ahead. She manages to get to her appointments on time. But when I use her car, I’m always 5 minutes early.
As a professor, I have set my clocks ahead much like Principal Spaetzel. It helps me a little bit, mostly because what slows me down often are various folks (students, other faculty, the Dean, etc) who stop me as I am migrating from place to place that I need to be. I agree with BigPuma (in the above comment) though, about the understanding of how long it takes to do certain things. For me, I am not often unaware of how long it takes to do certain things, but I WILL often base my estimates on “best case scenarios” even though I should damn well know better.
Overall, a very enjoyable and very pleasant comic today!!!!! It speaks of a great truth too, IMO.
Riding the bus I always plan for the most time consuming trip, worse possible scenario. And when I had a car I did the same. It was easier to deal with getting there early than late was my logic.

This has so many parallels in social and political contexts one can’t begin to choose the most useless.

If you KNOW your watch is set ahead, doesn’t that defeat the point?

For me, it works in the short term. Pretty much everything I do to avoid being late works only for weeks at best.

Wait, wasn’t Frazz giving Mr. S grief over wearing a watch yesterday (when he had a clock on his phone)? What’s he wearing in the third panel?

Ubermick… it is probably a fitness tracker. But, interestingly enough, most fitness trackers have a watch component as well.

When I lived alone, I had my alarm set ahead by the amount of one snooze cycle. I stopped because it isn’t fair to wake my wife twice.
