Remember that Columbus himself was taken back to Spain in shackles after his third stint in the Americas because of his brutality, and that of his brothers who were governing with him. Remember that the original Haitians ceased to exist under his administration … they were imprisoned and forced to mine for gold and had their hands cut off if they didn’t produce.
Your argument that their behavior was acceptable because “the natives were worse,” does not cut it, certainly not under Christian scrutiny.
As for who is a native, if you come to a place and find people living there, they are the natives, and you are the foreigner. By most standards, even then, that would give the occupants first claim - not the invaders.

At the risk of of being politically incorrect, Prince Henry Sinclair buried his first knight in Massachusetts 300 years before Columbus. This tombstone is still there with my family’s coat of arms. Somehow this Irishman forgot to tell anyone. It may have been the native brew. The Scandinavians settled the “New World ” several times before the Spaniards. And many historians agree Cristobal Colon was probably a Spanish Jew, not Italian (if there was such a country as Italy in 1492). Cute story though.
Wait until you try to untangle the claims that the Hebrew and Phoenicians got here many centuries before that - and I don’t mean claims in the Book of Mormon.
In a way I agree with Nabu, that is, on the “drop the hyphen” bit. Unless you can make stick a claim that God has given you a certain piece of land by covenant forever, possession is nine-tenths of the law.
Why doesn’t someone point out that Columbus did NOT discover N America as we know it, but rather the Americas in the south?

Two points about some expressions that people argue about in reference to Columbus and the other explorers. (I deal regularly with words and their meanings.) 1. You don’t have to be the first to discover something to legitimately say (or have said of you) that you discovered it. Even if others knew of its existence, if you didn’t, nor the people that you tell about it, then as far as you and they are concerned, you are a discoverer. 2. It really irks me that people insist on the term “Native American” for the descendants of the indigenous populations. ANYONE born in America is a native American. Wherever your ancestors may have come from, if you, personally, originated here, you are a native. As has already been pointed out above, even if you are a member of a group generally regarded as indigenous to this continent, your ancestors’ ancestors came from somewhere else, and the exact order and method of entry, by land bridge, or boat, is hidden in the mists of antiquity.
End of rant.
I am full blood Cherokee. Most Indians that I know do not like being called Native American. It is another politically Correct term made up by politicians to obscure the crulties of the past. I am “Indian” and proud of it.
