You have to like the subject matter to start with.

My grandfather liked Gene Autry and many of the singing cowboys. His friend (both RIP) told me that today’s westerns would put them to shame.

Don’t forget Smiley Burnette, his comic relief side-kick in 81 of his movies, who co-wrote a lot of Gene’s songs, and could play just about every musical instrument you’d come across.

Gene and Roy made movies you could see on a first date. And later, take your kids to see without having to explain things.

Back in the days of Drive In movies, the stars used to go to the theaters and perform live before the movie. I remember seeing Hopalong Cassidy and Topper at a drive in when I was little. He stood on Topper’s back and did rope tricks.

Do they really have Champion’s head mounted like that at the Autry museum? Gross! At least Roy had all of Trigger stuffed.

Gene and Roy’s movies and TV shows were, and still are, some of the best western tales ever.

Just listen, Delray. Maybe you can learn something . . .

Sounds like my dad in a museum. He has to read every card, though not necessarily out loud.

My husband major fan on Roy and Dale Evens Western movies. He also liked Hop-A-Long Cassidy moves too. Gene Autry westerns.

I came up with a fun idea for a couple Tee shirts, for both shirts they say “I’m a Hoot,” one version would have a hoot owl, and the other version would have Hoot Gibson.
