Besides, what is this ‘solve’? Sometimes violence is useful for stopping the hatefulness immediately, before the original cause WISHES to stop.
Besides, anyone using the term ‘never’ or ‘always’, etc, is almost always WRONG. I have ‘explained’ and changed immediate behavior of stalkers, for instance.
Poor Baldo. When those situations happen, at first you’re just stunned, unable to act. You’re thinking “Did I just hear what I thought I heard? Did I offend this guy somehow?” Once you have answered those questions, THEN you want to punch him in the face, but the offending jerk has beaten a hasty retreat.
Why is he being lectured ad nauseam? He handled racial abuse with dignity, and acted JUST as his father is preaching about. On top of that, he showed yesterday in the store’s sales figures (as a result of his hard work) being a far bigger deal to him than the actions of one idiot, that he’s able to walk away a bigger man. Meanwhile, in previous strips, Gracie hits someone at school who was calling her names, and was somehow praised for that? (And when the kid’s mother showed up to complain, she was brushed off too?)
There are times I really, really, REALLY don’t get this strip.
Why is Sergio lecturing Baldo? Baldo handled the situation very well. Yes, he could have been more assertive, but as a teenage clerk in a retail establishment, it was better to not engage and let his manager handle it. Sergio is assuming he has to teach Baldo how to handle this instead of asking him what happened first.
Welcome to America. For some reason, your skin color matters only when it’s the right skin color. Innocent children who didn’t have any say-so in the matter are given the curse that it’s okay to be crappy to all other innocent little children because the accursed grandfathers colonized and murdered millions of innocent grandfathers, grandmothers, great aunts and uncles, etc. Not a legacy I would be proud enough to carry onto the future, but Welcome to America.
“You’ve got to be carefully taught…” South Pacific musical.I was pleased to see Baldo’s boss order the guy out of his store; he acted rightly for a change.

Well, they say actions speak louder than words, but they also say violence never solves anything.

Seemed to me yesterday that Baldo allredy knew these things, but Sergio is adding fuel to the fire.

Take the high road Baldo. It’s much more rewarding.“Let no man pull you so low as to hate him.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
