Dean: Wow. math camp. So when are you leaving? Heart: End of the week. Dean: well, two weeks away isn't so bad! swimming an hiking and campfires! What's not to like about that? Heart: Math! And bugs! And math! Dean: but s'mores! That's got to take away some of the sting, right?

Watch out, Dean! Next thing you know Heart will have you posing as her at the camp.

It sure sounds fun to me—apart from the bugs! (But I’m a math teacher, so I may be a little biased…)

Heart’s going to do find there. Imagine the math teachers reduced to working as leaders there, and imagine the sort of teens who are counselors at a math camp. Now imagine someone like Heart turned loose among them, and weep for them.

I never went to any camp. Math camp would be terrible. I would fail at everything there.

Our children couldn’t wait to go to camp. They loved it. They went to three different ones, two weeks at a time, and then the last two weeks to their grandparents. We saw them only on visiting days at camp, and when we went to the grandparents, those two weeks were our vacations too. We took day trips while there.

The closest thing to schoolwork at my camp was “Tree Identification.” Nobody was supposed to fail, but I really made ‘em work to get me through it! Guess it was inevitable I’d become a zoologist!

Actually you’ll be getting flavourless oatmeal. Enjoy!
