OK, how about “The 23 Perfect Pitchers”? Although Harvey Haddix should make it 24. Someday that correction will be made, I hope.

Baseball will be perfect when the designated hitter rule disappears forever.

Not when a batter gets hit in the face with a fastball, it isn’t!

It’s true! Think about it; almost every other game involves a rectangular field, with the idea being to run/skate/bounce/kick the object to one end of it and put the it into a goal of some kind.

I could watch baseball if only they didn’t take so long between pitches! Throw the ball already! !

They better be perfect with their catching in that tall grass, or goodby ball.

I haven’t watched a ball game for over 16 years as it is just a real slow waste of time!!

Hope you see this Guy, because this strip today brings to mind my favorite baseball story.

Charlie Grimm was an outstanding major league ball player with a .290 career batting average and over 1000 RBIs. After he retired he went on to manage several teams, spending most of that time with the Cubs.

It was in that capacity, some time during the 1940s, that he sent out a scout to an independent minor league to look for help for a struggling Cubs team. After some time that scout wired back his report, saying that he found one really great prospect.

The scout said that the young man was a pitcher and he had seen him throw a perfect game and strikeout all 27 men. The man continued noting that only one player had even hit a foul ball. He asked Grimm what he should do, and if Grimm wanted the scout to make the pitcher an offer.

In response Grimm wired back, Sign the guy who hit the foul ball, WE NEED HITTERS.
