Three cheers for Pucky! Such a brave little sweetie! Although something tells me that Elvis will never admit to having been hysterical. I’m sure he’ll have a much more “reasonable” explanation…
There’s been some debate, so I will weigh in: In the second panel, I meant for the little puff next to Elvis to be….
(Drum roll!)
…a dust bunny! I love dust bunnies. I used to draw them with old-leaf wings as a teenager/college student. I will post them up on the blog or Instagram the next time I come across a sketch!
This makes me laugh so much, because my kitty Helena does this all the time. I double over in hysterics when she punches the vacuum—smack smack smack!!—it’s so violent! The funny thing is, when we disassemble the vacuum, she attacks every. single. part. of it. She knows that brush, dustbin, and other random bits are definitely in league with the evil vacuum somehow!
I love the way doing the hoovering is a week-long drama where cats are concerned. And little Puck, the hero! He remains my favourite kitty in the comic.
Also I grew up with Yorkshire Terriers. Technically small dogs, they are about 50% cat. The one with the most character used to attack the hoover, all 5lb of her, so you’d be dragging the hoover back and forth with a snarling Yorkshire Terrier attached. She was very committed to protecting us from it.

Pucky is not a fighter by nature, but when there is no other option, he will rise to the occasion!

Can’t wait for the epilogue. Will Puck let go of his heroic behavior, or milk it for all it’s worth?

Wonderful. Elvis really does take care of so many that he deserves to be defended.

Wow! It looks like a real live dust bunny in that panel! (You rarely ever get to see their little faces.) Looks like Pucky made two saves! Hooray! (?)

Pucky, you are such a brave kitty to brave the vacuum to save your friend. However, Elvis, you know you’ll never live this down, don’t you?

I think that’s a mouse toy next to Elvis. A bunny would have longer ears and wouldn’t have the long tail.

Is that a DUST BUNNY that i see?

Not many cartoonists could successfully capture the facial expression of a vacuum cleaner while it’s cringing away from a beating. Georgia rocks!
