As a man I’ve never understood the “Not reading instructions” thing. People who don’t read the instructions are the type who would fail the “read everything before doing anything” test.

My brother invited me over to put up a swing set. He said to come day early and stay overnight. Got plastered. Next morning hung over bad. I put the set together in an hour, not looking at instructions. The instructions stated 4 hours. Set still going strong. Last time I was hungover too.

Instructions tend to be a gender-oriented thing, like asking directions

I guess i just got in the habit of reading instructions because i work in a highly technical field where following the process is key to not bricking your equipment. I suppose after a few passes thru the process, once you’re familiar with it, you don’t need them anymore, but for anything beyond setting up a swing set you probably want instructions in front of you the first time you do it. And for some tasks, you always want to adhere to them strictly: there’s a reason why pilots have to go thru a rigorous pre-flight checklist, and pretty serious consequences (I’m talking Darwin award level consequences) if they don’t.
