Moe is smarter than I would have given him credit for. Smarter than the “Moe’s” I knew at that age (sigh).

I’m really disturbed thinking what would’ve happened had Moe taken Hobbes…

I think the point that was being made is that Bullys tend to be cowards.

I doubt Moe would have given Hobbes any smooches – not like that lovely little Susie girl!

I didn’t Moe was smart enough for reverse psychology to work on him. On the other hand, I seem to be perfectly ok with talking stuffed tigers…

Moe is smart enough to avoid traps and he thinks Calvin is setting some sort of trap.

A classic case of reverse psychology.

    Or is it?

The wonderful, oh-so-wonderful aspect of C&H is that Hobbes, in Calvin’s eyes, is a real tiger. Everyone else sees a stuffed tiger. (There is one incident where Calvin’s mom starts talking to Hobbes in “stuffed mode”, but I digress.)

The charm of this particular strip is that Calvin wasn’t afraid at all. It was the child-like confidence in his tiger friend meeting the cowardice and paranoia of bully Moe that ended a potential conflict.

One of the sweetest strips in the C&H canon. I love it.

It was nice to meet him but I hope Calvin will never see him again.

I guess I was half right the other day when I said Moe will bully him for having a stuffed toy.

But I really didn’t expect that! And Hobbes look nothing like a bear. Moe must have the IQ of a fish.

    Haha!

In reality (for a comic, anyway), I’m sure Calvin’s mom knows how to restuff a tiger!

Hats off to Watterson ! In the last panel, the immense glee in Calvin’s heart shows clearly through his face (and the artwork)
