I am from India, and I believe newspapers are diminishing in fact. Many of us read our news on our smartphones/tablets/computers nowadays. Also there are about a 100 news channels on TV in various languages around, so newspapers are going down slowly.
Demonstrates how contemporary media make everything breaking news, even mundane data of no significance to viewers.
Their ‘news’ programs opening graphics attempt to make their very existence into ‘breaking news.’ NBC uses the ‘bullet fired down a tube’ approach to their NY headquarters, which is then pictured as a giant finger pointing at space, as if to say ‘we are the ultimate source.’
Then they present snippets of repetitive vids between yards of ads, adding up to about 23 minutes of ‘news’ in the half hour slot. And half of the vid time is devoted to the ‘anchor’ (could there be a more descriptive word for what they do than that?) previewing what the poor sucker stuck in the flood, hurricane, or war is going to tell us again.
