And, of course, anybody who tells you that they can tell whether the climate is actually getting warmer of cooler now when the random fluctuation from year to year is at least TWENTY times this 0.6 degree per century is either a bleeep fool or a charlatan!! And you can tell Al Gore that I said so!!!

Come back in a thousand years and THEN you’ll know whether it was getting warmer or cooler now, but in the meantime anyone is just blowing smoke for his own personal political gain.

And then there is the fact that they have stopped using whitewash to paint the temperature recording boxes and have gone to a different paint that has completely different infrared reflecting properties so the boxes run warmer than in the past.

AND, these boxes which used to be out in the country are now in the midst of the cities which have grown out and surrounded them, so they are now often located in places such as the exhaust of air conditioner heat exchangers and on top of blacktopped parking lots that absorb solar heat!!

And one of the contributors to this “Glibal” warming was the collapse of the Soviet Union with the result that a lot of the weather reporting stations in Siberia closed up and STOPPED reporting the temperature up there. So (NATURALLY) the AVERAGE reported global temperature increased as a result of this skewed reporting!!!

I could go on and on for days too! But it’s 1:30 in the morning here so I should go to bed for the night!

The Senator must have been holding one of the Climategate emails.

Does anyone remember in the 1970’s when scientists were predicting a coming ice age?

Deny climate change, lose your job. Predict climate change, get another grant. Settled science my eyeball.

I worked for NOAA, too - back in the 1970’s - when they said it was getting COLDER…

Man is just a tiny, insignificant speck on the Timeline of Life. WHY be so important? We don’t know JACK - and ANYONE who thinks that keeping records for 100 years can tell EVERYTHING about this Earth now….well, that’s pretty silly, isn’t it?

^ Because no religious leaders are doing the same thing. Am I saying Global Warming is a religion? No, but the deniers like to liken it to a religion, while doing the exact same thing they detest.

It is mathematical nonsense to extrapolate from a single point which is exactly what the Gore cultists have done. That is why global cooling to warming opinions have been so popular within the same 50 years span.

For those of you who don’t understand, the one thing that’s certain about the climate is that it’s always changing. Some of the more simplistic AGW fanatics seem to think that it stayed stable for centuries then suddenly started changing about 110 years ago, but that’s not true. There’s no doubt in anybody else’s mind that it was warmer when the vikings were in Greenland and cooler during the Little Ice Age. Right now, it’s getting warmer, but there’s no unambiguous evidence that humanity caused the warming or even that we could have that much effect on the climate.

Currently there are two spammers; I’ve flagged them both.

    “Rockngolfer”,

I’d call it a drought. The fact is that the weather just does things like this from time to time and man has NOTHING whatever to do with it. The weather is just every bit as reliable as …, well, the weather!

From 1606 through 1612 tree ring data show that the area around what became Jamestown colony in Virginia went through a seven year drought that was more severe than any other seven year period in the last 800 years.

That’s why the indians around there stopped feeding the colonists. They just didn’t have any food to spare because of the seven year long drought.

You’re probably going to tell me that the industrial revolution caused the drought, aren’t you!

    “JoPhan”,

EXACTLY! There have been times on earth when there was NO ice at all anywhere on the entire planet. There has also been at least one time some time before about 650 million years ago when the earth was ENTIRELY iced over from pole to pole!

Needless to say that all this happened LONG before humans even evolved, to say nothing of the industrial revolution!!

By the way, there is not even any unambiguous data that shows that the earth is, in the long term, getting warmer now. As I said last night, the RANDOM variation is so much greater than the projected average temperature that depending on which data you want to look at and what end points you choose for your GUESS, you can get any answer you want out of the data. What you get just depends on what prejudice you have when you choose where to look. So in the long run, IT MAY WELL BE that those who predicted a future ice age are correct. ( But you can’t get government grants by predicting an ice age that man has no effect on one way or the other. You get government grants by screaming panic and saying that man causes all this climate change – while not admitting that it has gone on for HUNDREDS of millions of years AT LEAST! )

By the way II, You better bloody well hope that we are NOT going into an ice age again because THAT would wipe out all of civilization as we know it and kill off most of the people on earth by starvation. BECAUSE you can’t grow food under ten feet of ice!

By comparison, a few degrees warmer makes it EASIER to grow food and feed people.

By the way III, A drought is more typical of a COOLING climate NOT a warming climate. Why? Because cold air can’t hold as much moisture as warm air can. That is what caused man to evolve in the first place in Africa a couple million years ago when the earth turned cold and African forests dried out to savannah. And that trend continued so that starting about a million years ago man walked out of Africa straight into the start of a string of ice ages that by geologic time frames we are still involved in the remains of today. The northern climate had been temperate for immemorial ages – for SEVERAL HUNDRED MILLION YEARS – until it started turning cold in a string of ice ages that either we are just coming out of now or we are still involved in.

The sad thing is, that there are things humans do to damage the earth: Overfishing, deforestation, extinctions due to over hunting or loss of habitat, acid rain, heavy metal contamination from mining in China, herbicides on lawns that drain into water ways, etc, etc

All the clap trap about GCD (Global Climate Disruption - didn’t you get the memo? “Climate Change” is just too amusing even for Gore Heads) is based on journalists and politicians making wild extrapolations from the real science. And all the grant money is creating dishonest science (“climategate”).

As a result, real environmental problems are getting ignored. Even the Nature Conservancy (which I used to support) has reduced their biodiversity efforts and jumped on the GCD bandwagon.

    Hi Stuart,

    I absolutely agree!

P.S. And I should add that deforestation in the tropics IS one of the very few things that man can do that DOES have climatological impact. BUT that isn’t US, that isn’t the result of the industrial revolution. What it IS, is the result of ‘good christian missionaries’ making ‘good christians’ out of the ‘savages’ so they have more church members!!!

P.S.2 Just in case anybody MISTAKES my UNBIASED scientific KNOWLEDGE for some bleeep and bull religious fantasy put out by certain political parties!!

P.S.3 That bleeep ‘bleeper’ is getting AWFULLY sensitive!!!! ;-)
