It’s just a fun skill to learn. But if you don’t want to you don’t have to. I loved skipping stones, still do, although I don’t get to do it so often anymore.
Seems to me she is just having spontaneous fun with the splashes and ripples. And he has found that with a little wrist action you can stretch the fun, but only with planning and control, which she does not want or need. A function of age vs youth.
In ancient times, the elders told the younglings things like “don’t go down by the river”. They figured that just the word of an older, wiser person would suffice to make the point. They didn’t need to add “or else the gators’ll getcha”, because any kid who scoffed at the advice would soon learn the lesson in person.
These days the older generation gets to pass along more benign information, about such things as a different way to have fun, and there appears to be no penalty for expressing scorn or disdain at the effort to be helpful.

Heh heh she has an interesting interpretation. Depends on my mood, precision and skill or satisfying “plunk” sound. Both are good meditation and release.
