I bet the cost to maintain the ponies would cost more than the electric carts. If the store installs solar panels on the roof of their store, they could use the electricity to charge up the electric carts and be environmentally conscious.
The amount of methane produced by the breakdown of the waste from the “organic fuel” would be a greater threat to the environment than if the carts were gasoline powered.
The donkey will cost about $2.50 to $3.00, the electric cart about $1.75 per day to charge. I doubt that the cleanup costs for the electric cart will be as big the problem as the donkeys cleanup will be. I guess you could require the customers to clean up after them.
This would never work—it would be a health hazard with these animals constantly pooping in a store with food everywhere. I like the recharging of the carts via solar power that someone else mentioned.

Animal cruelty: Most of the people who ride the carts weigh more than a pony.

If someone is buying 12 items or less, can they use the Pony Express line?
