I’m surprised they haven’t banned all references to Santa this elderly obese guy who stalks children 24/7 and bribes them with presents and candy to let him sneak into their houses in the middle of the night…
I can do one better than this, with a true story: When my daughter was seven-years-old or so, she was recounting the words to this song, much as Calvin is doing. Then she turned to me, with her tongue metaphorically in cheek (for she already had a wry sense of humour), and said, “Dad, is Santa Claus a stalker?”
When I read this, I picture the version of “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” playing on the radio being the version by Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters.

Well, what about “The Elf on the Shelf” …
the now-popular, (but unknown when this strip was drawn),
children’s book?
It comes complete with a sneaky, spying, two-faced elf doll,
who, the children are told, flies home to the North Pole every night while they sleep,
to report their every misbehavior to Santa and his minions.
Rather chilling, I think.

If someone else doesn’t do this to us, we’ll do it to ourselves. Isn’t that right, Alexa?

I remember having this in one of Watterson’s books when I was younger. As a kid, I couldn’t figure out what a “Cia Spook” was.

If you like this, check out the Black Peter Christmas story, known to Mexican kids as Pedro Negra. That will straighten you up.
