Mine mostly stays off the table, opting for her attempt at stealth instead. She sits on the chair beside mine, tucked away under the table, and reaches one little paw up…the fatal flaw in her plan is that the table is glass.
I’ll never forget the 1st time we offered our Cat Poody a tiny piece of ham, her eyes grew big, she let out a weird excited scream and devoured the piece of pink wonder.
Mine aren’t allowed on the table or the kitchen counters, so of course I sometimes walk in on them when they’ve gotten up there without my knowledge. I think deception is supposed to be a sign of intelligence?
Love Puck’s little fangs in the last panel. I hope he gets some ham after all that effort. But then, Lupin and Elvis will also demand ham. All good boys deserve ham, and overall, they are good boys.
Nothing, but nothing will keep determined little Pucky from ham! He and Lupin always prove that missing limbs, hearing, tail tips, or ANYTHING do not measure the character (or maneuverability) of a kitty! Super mega big hearts for cats!
And absolutely NOTHING will hinder the determination of one very talented artist to give her audience her very best! After reading about all the stumbling blocks thrown in the way of Georgia and her Man, I am humbled at her herculean efforts to keep to her dream!
I always love the slant Georgia Dunn has done with this comic. Reminds me of quite a few cat adventures that I miss from days gone by. I miss my kitties.
Have a cat at my folk’s place that ADORES ham, and until he finally caught on that this wasn’t allowed, he would try this all the time. But now, he just begs, and begs HARD. But it’s tough-luck if he tries to beg for me—I like my ham too, and I ain’t sharin’, cat. :P
Current two have no interest in people food but the previous four were absolute mooches. I usually had a semi-circle of cats sat around me as I ate just in case I might be willing to share, Figaro would gently tap my leg now and then as an additional reminder of their presence and occasionally Mozart’s paw would reach for the plate to “liberate” a piece of whatever I was eating. And ham was very much in the top of the “can I have some?” list as far as they were concerned
We allow our cats on tables and counter tops. However, they have learned it isn’t polite to jump on the counter or table when we are eating. They usually just sit and stare at us until offered something safe for them to eat. Often they sniff, then walk away. Occasionally, for ham or cheese, 8-ball will reach a paw up to the table, politely indicating that he’s really interested in what we’re eating. He also likes an occasional taste of pizza (cheese) and loves pizza crust crumbs. Occasionally he likes a bite of green olive, or the sauce from vegetarian baked beans.
I live alone and never eat at my table. I eat on the couch in the living room so it is much easier for my cats to check out what I am eating. Right now I am down to just 1, Maxie pictured to the left. Sometimes she doesn’t even come check me out when I am eating, but I know for sure she will be bugging me constantly if I am having pig in the blankets or pizza, which she loves the cheese off of. She is also a big fan of Five Guys hamburgers and often times the meat off of sandwiches.
Left a chicken carcass on a table one night; too tired to clean up. When I woke up, every scrap, bone and hint of sauce was gone. The Siamese was not interested in his kibble that morning. Coincidence?
My father had one cat who was privileged not only to sit on the table during breakfast, but to lap milk out of his cereal bowl while he was still eating out of it. Neither one of them thought this was odd. Dad has been gone for 15 years now; the cat outlived him by a few, but she’s gone now too.
I have other cat on the table stories of course, but I get sentimental about that one.
For our Pasha, years and years ago, it was turkey. On Thanksgiving and Christmas, when the turkey went into the oven his vigil would begin. He’d sit quietly in the kitchen for hours, waiting, and would be rewarded for his patience with the first plate.
Some years ago I had friends who were owned by a large Maine Coon name of Norman Bates. Norman was a very talented cat when it came to pork chops. Talented at stealing them, that is. In that house, if you took your eye off your pork chop, it would be gone.
Georgia is much more tolerant than I am I guess. After the second time, kitty cat goes in the bathroom. (Not in the bedroom, ‘cause I don’t want her to pee on my bed. The towel on the floor in the bathroom is easier to wash.) But I give it to Puck for determination — for HAM!

Our late kitty Bagheera—also a black cat, incidentally—would beg me for chicken. Thankfully he never did what Puck does, LOL.

Pucky! Not only are you a champion climber, you’re also a champion table jumper! So impressive! Your talents know no boundaries!

Oh the ham! So this is Puck’s motivation for becoming the best climber this side of the universe!

Little Puck dancing in panel three. I guess that’s because he was told to “Get down!” Sorry. Old joke.
