Our local K-Mart has announced that they’re going out of business. I think they have another couple of weeks. It’s the only store of its kind within miles, and the nearest malls are still further away.

I admit that when the announcement came, I felt a guilty twinge about my Amazon buying.

Excellent!! Now the question for those who predict future events: what will be the form of the retail evolution that follows this one?

The urban model is still doing ok, because everything is walkable. It makes sense to buy things from stores if the store is on the block, and use Amazon or something only if you can’t find what you’re looking for.

When you have drive several miles just to go shopping, of course you’ll use Amazon.

In the film “Frequency” (2000), a man sent a message twenty years back in time to a childhood friend, but it wasn’t “Amazon” it was “Yahoo”.
